Students select a topic across a wide range of genres including foreign languages, academic subjects and personal interest/entertainment. While they scan for words we identify spelling patterns, unique word features and other markers that will allow students to more effectively employ scanning in text. We also work with vocabulary and using the vocabulary independently. Students are highly engaged by the game like atmosphere and improve their spelling, decoding and scanning skills through the use of this game as a reward.

I love this website for it’s rich culturally diverse library. The stories are mature enough in many cases that my high school students like them for a quick listen but can apply skills for analyzing and synthesizing the text and context for vocabulary.
