Based on the WordPress platform, PrimaryBlogger offers similar functionality, but with additional features specifically to help the teacher and school. Teachers or pupils can easily switch between normal and ‘Easy mode’ to make the experience of posting, commenting or managing posts more user-friendly. (There’s even a ‘Wizard’ mode to take users through things step-by-step). Users can be added using a file upload feature, so class/group lists can be added using csv files. New users can have roles the teacher decides on the main blog, or be provided with their own individual blogs. Help guides, video tutorials and lesson ideas are also provided.
In the free version, you get 250Mb storage (less than WordPress), which requires some forethought and planning if you intend to use lots of images, but you can upgrade to scaled premium plans if your needs are higher. The costs here are quite reasonable.
There are reminders about other products the company provides, visible when logged in, but these are largely unobtrusive and can be hidden.
If you’re just starting out with blogging and want a relatively gentle introduction with a modicum of appropriate support, or even want to produce your school website ‘in-house,’ then PrimaryBlogger might be for you.
