MIT Press Journals is a mission-driven, not-for-profit scholarly publisher devoted to the widest dissemination of its content. MIT Press founded the Journals branch in 1969, publishing its first two quarterlies, Journal of Interdisciplinary History and Linguistic Inquiry shortly after. Today, Journals publishes more than thirty titles, frequently adding select publications of long-standing repute or innovative, fresh material to its current list.

MIT Press Journals, among the first university presses to offer its titles online, delivers content in print and electronic formats, covering a wide range of disciplines including the arts and humanities, social sciences, and specialized areas of science and technology. With a commitment to growth and evolution of scholarly publishing, MIT Press Journals continues to expand its publishing program, recently launching the International Journal of Learning and Media, a groundbreaking online-only journal. Several of the Press’ journals are published in partnership with other organizations, including Daedalus, on behalf of the American Academy for Arts and Sciences, and African Arts, on behalf of the James S. Coleman African Studies Center at UCLA. Additionally, the Journals division publishes in cooperation with Harvard University, New York University, The World Policy Institute, the Association for Computational Linguistics, and the European Economic Association.

MIT Press Journals has been the recipient of generous grants from institutions such as the Mellon Foundation as well as the Lemelson Foundation, the latter of which supports the journal Innovations: Technology/Governance/Globalization. In 2008, the MacArthur Foundation awarded a grant to the Monterey Institute for Technology and Education to support the development of the International Journal of Learning and Media, which explores the impact of digital media on education.

MIT Press Journals is an eminently global publisher–countries in its top ten readership pool span the world, including the UK, Canada, Germany, Australia, Japan, and China, among others. The Journals’ web pages are viewed over 5 million times a year, and boast about 2 million visitors from diverse regions. MIT Press’ journals are featured in book stores across the globe, and in major cities around the U.S. Publications such as Global Environmental Politicsand Innovations explore provocative issues of global relevance, including world politics, entrepreneurship, environmental change, and international finance, and feature reportage on subjects and regions not widely covered in the general media. MIT Press Journals prides itself on hosting journals with a cross-cultural perspective that speak to an international audience.

For the past thirty years, the Journals division has acquired titles considered required reading in their fields. A considerable number of MIT Press’ journals boast a high impact factor, such as International Security, which has been the number one journal in international relations for several years. Computational Linguistics and The Review of Economic and Statistics are in the top three of their respective fields. Whether discussing breakthroughs in machine/human interface in Artificial Life or studying the intricacies of neural processing in The Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, MIT Press Journals has earned its reputation as one of the leading publishers of science and technology titles in the country.
