Art Student (Future Art Educator)
November 18, 2020

Literacy is the ability to read and write, so digital literacy should achieve the same but, with the help of technology in that students can find, assess and create information from it. A great digital literacy tool that I recently discovered for the classroom was the website EasyBib. EasyBib is a literacy platform that lets the user create citations, upload and check papers for grammar and plagiarism, as well as providing various learning resources for users. An example of how to use this program on the citation side is to type in the website URL, book title, or whatever media source you have, click on the match, review the information and type in any additional info that is missing, and EasyBib will generate the citation that you need. So, if I had a student that was writing an art history paper about ancient Egyptian art, they would be able to properly cite the book or website that they used to write from and check for any copied information and grammatical issues before submitting their work for a final grade. They can also create multiple citations and organize them alphabetically. This platform would be helpful to student literacy within any discipline, not just within art content areas, as all students should know how to give credit to outside sources when researching. I appreciate this tool as it helps to avoid common issues that students face. Some weaknesses of this platform are that certain features are not available for free use and users must view ads or create logins before being able to access their finalized citations or plagiarism and grammar checks. However, I find that overall, EasyBib is an easy and accessible platform for students and will help develop their digital literacy skills as we continue to move towards more technological learning/teaching methods
