Web-based, Free Vialogues is a discussion platform based around video, allowing users (students) to view the content of a video while also commenting on it. Comments can then be viewed by teachers, seeing exactly where students had a question or comment.

Web-based; Free/Paid This tool is designed for marketing communications, however the free version provides a good platform for engaging and connecting with an audience, supporting realtime chat. Teachers can use this site to show a video and monitor and maintain student engagement. Teachers can also create polls and questions and moderate students responses.

Padlet

Web-based; Free….. Padlet is a collaborative, easy-to-use digital canvas that works like a piece of paper. Start with an empty page and students, colleagues, parents, anyone you invite can add almost anything (text, images, video, record an interview, snap a selfie, even upload some documents. Padlets can be customized by choosing custom wallpapers and themes, and selectively shared and edited among multiple contributors. It’s a great way to capture comments during a discussion, or brainstorm ideas. It can also serves as an information repository for a collaborative project.

VideoNot.es - Free; Web; Chrome VideoNot.es is an online app that syncs note-taking with videos for quick and easy reference or collaboration. Users (students or teachers) can play a video file on the left side of the screen and type notes and comments within the blank space on the right. Video URLs may be copied and pasted from Khan Academy, Coursera, Udacity, Vimeo, or YouTube. As the video plays users can type their notes, each new comment is time-coded with the video. After typing notes, users can click on the note line and the video will automatically jump to the spot where the note was made. A Google Drive integration allows notes to be saved and supports collaborations — notes can be shared across users.
