Here are some tools we will use in class this year. You most likely won’t use all of them, but can choose to use them for different class projects or assessments.
Infinite Campus is the School web portal where you can find grades and attendance information. Be sure to check this frequently!
You have a google account. With the same log in and password, you have access to gmail, google docs, sheets, presentations, and drive. Your user account is your [email protected] and your password is chsICpassword. Use this email and password for all of your school accounts that you set up. That will make it easier to remember your logins in the different programs.
Schoology is where you will find our class calendar and all assignments and announcements for biology. When creating your account, use your google log in information. Note: the grades in schoology are accurate for each assignment, but the overall grade is not correct. It does not calculate all assignments correctly. To see your overall grade, check IC. You will also use schoology for online class discussions and quizzes. Most of the work we will do in this class will be done in schoology. It is an app as well as a website. I find it easier to use the web browser Chrome instead of the app. We will use this in AVID as well for some assignments.
We will be creating class blogs in biology. Use your google account to log in. When you first set up your blog, use a restricted account - and just use your first name and last initial.
Sophia.org is where you will find all of the video lectures for our class. When creating an account, be sure to use your google email and password.
Scan is a QR reader that will link to videos, websites, etc.
This is a iPad app that allows you to create screencasts. You can save works in progress into your google drive and open them on any other iPad.
We will use iMovie to create movie trailers for projects.
Your iMovie and Explain Everything projects will be posted to You Tube.
iMotion HD is a stop motion video recorder to make stop motion or time lapse videos. (Ex. to demonstrate a lab over time)
Audioboo allows you to create podcasts - or record you speaking about your learning.
Haiku deck is a iPad app that allows you to create presentations similar to a powerpoint.
Prezi is an iPad app and website that allows you to create presentations similar to a powerpoint. Before using it on the iPad, you have to create an account online. Use your google account as your login and password. (You can use the browser on the iPad to create an account).
Mentor Mob is a web curation tool that makes playlists with instructions and links to different sites/documents.
Quizlet is a vocabulary tool which allows you to review, play games, quiz yourself, and even print out flashcards. It is a website and an app.
Thing Link is a presentation tool that allows you to take a picture and then add links to websites, images, and text to it.
Quia is a quiz/game tool to review.
Vine allows you to take quick (6 sec) videos. We will use this to demonstrate topics and activities.
We will use socrative to do informal quizzes. You can use your phone or the iPad as a "clicker".
Book creator allows you to create a book with text, images, and your voice. You can use this to share what you have learned.
Infuse learning is a "clicker" system similar to socrative.
Scrible will be used to take research notes. It works best on a computer, but can be used on an iPad.
Subtext allows you to read, take notes, collaborate with classmates, and use your google drive to write papers using quotes from the reading.
