USAGE: AR is a wonderful way to engage students in exploring and understanding concepts in regards to dimensions. It is also a way for them to jazz up presentations and amaze their students.
STRENGTHS: engaging, enhances learning in math and writing
WEAKNESSES: Not available for iDevices
CUSTOMIZATION: used in English/LA classroom research for writing papers and in Math classroom for Geometry
RECOMMENDATION: This is the type of tools that students are wanting to “play with” anyway so why don’t we capture that interest and use it in the classroom?

USAGE: Here are just a few ways to use this really innovative, interactive tool in the kindergarten-life-long learner classroom:

–as a way to build background at the start of a new unit
–to introduce a standard
–as a really cool conclusion or wrap-up to a unit
–to make career connections
–exploration and research for integrated projects in every subject area
–many, many others

STRENGTHS:

–a way to connect students to people and locations that they may never get to experience in person
–I am learning information and building my own background knowledge along with that of students and other teachers (it makes me look really smart)
–the connection to curators and educators at museums, zoos, and centers across the world!
–very easy for the least tech-savvy person in the world (me)
–very cost-effective (FieldTripZoom is free to subscribe/ live interactive field trips are very reasonable)

WEAKNESSES:

–I don’t have enough time to do all of the “field trips” that connect to my curriculum!

CUSTOMIZATION:

This tool is all about customization! The list of educational programs is comprehensive, and they appear to be from every type of curriculum connection.

WHY RECOMMEND?

The catalog is full of museums, zoos, and other educational resources in the USA and other countries that I never knew existed. I am connecting to them through FieldTripZoom, and then going to that providers website to register for free e-newsletters and other resources. This tool has truly connected my classroom to the world, and I am integrated it into all of my presentations.
