JsFiddle is great for sharing code and seeing how it works as you manipulate it. My students use this often when trying to help each other out on a problem. You can even save your work for modification later. I have had students turn in assignments on jsFiddle and I readily accept it. My only complaint might be lack of privacy options. However, since we work on nothing that involves sensitive data, and I instruct my students to stay away from sensitive data, this is not a real problem.
One of the best ways to learn how to program is to look at existing code. This site gives you that in spades. The color-coded editor allows students to quickly parse the code and manipulate it for realtime results. My only complaint is it is hard to find something specific. I have to hunt around to find relevant examples for my course.
Sometimes students find answers to their problems before I can reply to them. This is a great thing. My more take-charge students even proactively answer questions from other students or users on this site. I consider this a fantastic complement to my course and have no criticisms of it. Their reputation system is strong enough to catch any potential pitfalls that become of social sites.
