This site is used as a way to give students detailed story starters to help get their writing started as well as help them focus on a specific method, or format, of writing (journal, postcard, etc). They are able to chose a genre, such as fantasy, sci-fi, adventure, or even a scrambler option. This can be helpful for all students, but especially English Language Learners and younger students, or even those that just have difficulty getting started with their writing. One thing that could be improved was the age range of 4 – 6th grade. The content that is appropriate for a sixth grader (vocabulary and concepts) may be too advanced for a fourth grader. However, it could be adjusted for specific groups of students by varying the grade level and changing the requirements or length of writing. One last thing that was beneficial was the ability to electronically “draw” pictures to go with the text. This is a great feature for younger students as well as ELL’s. I would recommend this to a colleague as a way to increase engagement and motivation for creative writing.

This website gives students an interesting resource that gives students writing prompts. The student goes on it and chooses the genre, such as fantasy, sci-fi, etc., and gets a random combination to create a sentence which is their prompt. They then are able to pick the format they want to write, such as a postcard, newsletter, etc., and begin writing. This is a unique tool that can allow students to get excited about writing by having creative prompts and access to a variety of formats to complete their writing.
