Geddit is a new web-based app for the 1:1 classroom that lets students give instant feedback about their understanding. This information is visible in real-time so that teachers can identify needs as they occur, allowing for quick and easy differentiation.

Geddit also includes your favorite quizzing features (multiple choice, short answer etc) to support the student ‘check-ins’. Geddit focusses on a feedback process that starts with the student. This model empowers students in the formative assessment process while teaching them skills of metacognition.

I loved Geddit but it appears as thought it is no longer available. The website is inactive and the domain is available.

Challenges I face in my classroom…
1. Are the students understanding what I am teaching?
2. Which students are getting it? Which students are not getting it?
3. How much time do I need to spend on a topic?
4. Does silence mean, “yes, I get it?” or “I’m overwhelmed and lost?”

Introducing Geddit…an amazingly simple tool that allows you to instantly collect feedback from your class not only about whether they are able to get the right answer or not, but more importantly about whether they think they understand the content. How confident are your students? Does their confidence level match with their ability to answer a question?

I have found Geddit to be a powerful tool that engages my students and provides the opportunity for specific formative feedback throughout a lesson. I can deploy a “Quick Question” on the fly, or design a “Lesson” to use during lecture, discussion, lab, or activity. I am able to make decisions about the progress of my lesson in real time. Do I need to slow down and give another example? Are the students already comfortable with a topic and ready to move on?

I teach high school and my students are not always open to sharing how they feel about the content or if they have questions. By giving them an opportunity to respond individually through the Geddit interface, I have found my students to be very expressive.

My favorite aspect of Geddit, which sets it apart from other “clicker” tools, is the opportunity to teach metacognition. Data is collected and can be referenced and analyzed throughout the course. Teaching my students how to determine what they know and how they learn is invaluable. My goal is to help them become lifelong learners, prepared for college and beyond.

Geddit is a tool that creates teachable moments. I am able to collect data from every student in the room and provide clarification through another example, direct feedback, encouragement, and/or move on to the next topic to maintain engagement. In addition, we can talk about learning, processing information, and understanding about knowing content. The staff at Geddit are so responsive as well, which makes it easy for any teacher to get started knowing that they will find support and encouragement. They are very open to feedback and continue to develop the tool so that it provides a maximum benefit.

Seriously, if you haven’t tried Geddit you need to…then ask your students what they think. I was overwhelmed by my students’ positive response to this tool and how the tool enhanced their focus and confidence.

Excellent tool to gather real time data on how your kids are succeeding and where they need extra help. Perfect for all kids, especially the ones who are shy or lacking in confidence to ‘put up their hand’. With Geddit there is no fear in answering and getting it right or wrong. It is fantastic for a quick assessment of a topic taught, or a good place to gain student knowledge of where to begin a new topic. Highly recommended. Made by a teacher, for teachers! You have got to love that and go geddit!!!

Geddit is an easy tool to use for instant feedback and differentiation that alleviates a student’s anxiety about sharing their answers publicly.

From my perspective, having the immediate data was awesome. I could instantly who needed help or how I could pull small groups for intervention. It was great having their names right there to see and the responses were available instantaneously. I definitely need to practice smoothly going from notes or the lesson to checking for understanding, but I am sure the more I use the program, the easier that would be. I also like the fact that I can now make sure that I can make responding “mandatory,” which is sometimes impossible with choral responses.

The overall data results are awesome. Very easy to read and well organized. After seeing the final results, I realized that I could easily create questions for the end of the lesson as a “mini-quiz,” which I would certainly do next time. There are so many possibilities.

I have used this tool to teach students to gauge their levels of confidence in meeting lesson objectives and to teach essential skills of honest and active self-reflection and communication in their own learning process.

Geddit introduces a paradigm shift in educational technology in which students are given an essential tool to provide and document ongoing feedback about their own learning process. In my experience, educational technology has primarily been designed and utilized as a content delivery system. Geddit is a feedback system that not only empowers students to actively engage in building a relationship with the instructor through the use of technology but also teaches essential metacognitive skills in which students learn to reflect on their own inner experience of learning. Students can be taught to engage in epistemological reflection and can have a record of their own learning process throughout the course of a lesson.

I highly recommend this tool for any teacher who is passionate about teaching metacognitive skills and who is interested in increasing student engagement in using technology in the classroom.

This tool changed my attitude towards exit slips and learning targets. Instead of making exit slips a long and tedious affair, it becomes more of a game – I can figure out how my students are feeling about a learning target at any given time, in real time. It’s easy to get started, with very little technical ability needed, but also very customizable. I can’t recommend it highly enough. In addition, it’s perfect for those of us in Washington State (USA), where we are required to collect student data over and over again for our new evaluations.

I have been using this tool daily in my class for a couple of weeks now. I have found it to be an essential piece in our daily routine. It is extremely quick and easy to integrate into your existing lessons and it provides immediate, useful information on how the students are feeling about the material. Adding questions in the moment or making questions ahead of time lets me see if the students are learning the material in a fast and meaningful way. I will definitely be recommending it to many more teachers and I think everyone should try it with their students.

In Richland School District Two, Columbia, SC, we’ve been sharing Geddit with teachers and school administrators in our sessions on formative assessment. I used Geddit with twenty principals to model how Geddit can provide teachers with instant feedback throughout a lesson. Geddit worked well during my presentation, and we’re seeing teachers begin to use Geddit on a regular basis. Geddit is easy to use and can run on any device. Teachers can also add questions to get more specific feedback.
