Homer is a new literacy app that is beautifully laid out. I love that it incorporates non-fiction AND nursery rhymes and folk songs. My students and my children love Homer. They are releasing a writing component in March that I am really looking forward to sharing.

In the settings turn off all the characters, voices, and jungle sounds and then you will have a fantastic tool to use with older kids struggling with geometry. The virtual protractor and ruler make learning about measuring angles and angle types a snap. For the concepts the app teaches, the interface is pretty babyish if you do not turn all but the voice off. Minus that fact, the app is an outstanding tool.

Another great app that lets children compose and decompose numbers-so simple and engaging they don’t even know they are building skills.

Love this tool for reflective and rotational symmetry-the interface is clean and simple and tracks the number of moves it takes to complete the activities correctly.

I love this app for many reasons. The first is that it teaches children different strategies necessary for adding in the early grades like counting on, using doubles, etc. The story is not baby-ish, which makes it a good tool to use with older kids with low skill levels. Graphics are excellent! This is a much more engaging fluency app than some others I use. Highly recommend!
