Education Technology Specialist at NYC Department of Education

Bio

Alex Jiménez, M. Ed.
Founder, CLIQ101

Alex has a passion for making ed tech simple. She empowers teachers to become their best at digital literacy for the 21st Century classroom. And when teachers step up their tech savvy, they can’t help but engage their students in learning.

Realizing that teachers often feel overwhelmed and pressed for time, Alex founded CLIQ101 as a space where digital learning could be made possible in easy-to-follow, time-saving ways. With her finger always on the ed tech pulse, she is known for her innate ability to deliver engaging professional development that motivates and excites teachers to try out fresh, innovative ideas using the most state-of-the-art classroom technology.

Alex has had the ed tech bug for almost ten years — starting with early Web 2.0 tools and now with online collaborative and social media. Prior to becoming an educator, she worked for fifteen years in the IT field, as a business systems designer and computer programmer at Fortune 500 companies such as Ernst & Young, CBS Records, Simon & Schuster Publishing, and Prudential Securities, Inc.

Today, Alex enjoys a unique district-level position in New York City’s Department of Education where she combines that big-firm expertise with her classroom know-how to help schools leverage technology, personalize instruction, and close the digital divide. She also does freelance work as an online instructor for the Education Portal, and as an educational video host on About.com. She continues to find ways to make an impact on digital literacy for the most underserved populations.

Alex holds a BS in Industrial Technology (Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering/State University of New York at Binghamton) and an MS in Education (The City College of New York). Since she couldn’t stop being a student if she tried, she moved on to earn advanced graduate certificates in Education Media Design & Technology (Full Sail University), as well as in Educational Leadership & Administration (The College of Saint Rose).

A native New Yorker, Alex is an active member of Transforming Education for the 21st Century [TED21C] and the NYEdTech Meetup Group. She also devotes as much time as she can to pro bono work for the New York City chapter of Webgrrls International, an organization that supports women in technology.

When she isn’t working, Alex can be found experimenting with healthy recipes, going for a light run in the park, or buried in a book under her favorite tree. She could not possibly do without Spanish tapas, red wine, chocolate, or her trusty MacBook that she takes practically everywhere. Though she wishes she could travel more, she loves to be near water every chance she gets, any season of the year. Alex also has a hopeless addiction to grad school and being a lifelong learner, so don’t try to stop her from taking that next class!
