Hoopa City is a city-creation game designed for younger students. It is simple and straight forward and students will find it easy to learn. They will place different structures around in their city in any way that they choose. The problem solving comes into play when students add different combinations of buildings together to unlock newer and bigger buildings. Students have to figure out which combinations will result in which buildings. While doing so, they’ll create their city around them.
I use this tool for independent time and as a reward or motivator. I like its simplicity because students will easily figure it out on their own, but it’s complex enough that they can play it for a long time and not get bored. It is not easily customizable because it is so simple, but I would definitely recommend it to teachers who need a reward for students that need a game that still makes them think.
I am a visual person and like to see everything spread out in front of me, including my bookmarks. Symbaloo allows my web homepage to show me all of the different places that are important to me, right in front of me. Then, with extra webmixes, I’m easily able to save web sites I come across and share them with colleagues and students. I haven’t used it much with students, but would imagine that they would find it easy to use and helpful in organizing their school and personal lives. It’s easily customizable and would recommend it to anyone who has so many bookmarks that they end up just getting lost in folders.
